James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier and later White Wolf, is a complex character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His first appearance was in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger.
Initially, Bucky was portrayed as Steve Rogers' loyal childhood friend and comrade during World War II. Presumed dead after a fall from a train, he was captured and brainwashed by HYDRA, who replaced his missing arm with a cybernetic one. This transformed him into the Winter Soldier, a highly skilled and ruthless assassin.
Under HYDRA's control, he carried out numerous assassinations over decades, kept in cryogenic stasis between missions. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, his past begins to resurface, leading to a conflict with Captain America. By the time of Avengers: Infinity War, Bucky is living in Wakanda, recovering from his programming, and sometimes referred to as the White Wolf.
